I don’t buy it! June 22, 2007

I just had a hunt on the web for some details about the dodgy goog(l)e logo I posted about awhile ago. This *may* be a bit of backpedalling by Google to try and cover up a whoopsie, or, there’s something I’m missing, which makes me boring, unromantic and generally lacking in creative vision!!

Read Google’s response to international outrage!

I have to agree with the latter… you are indeed lacking in creative vision! Although it has nothing to do with romance or the low levels of your personality… it has to do with the fact that 10% of the worlds population makes 90% of the money for a reason… you just happen to not be very bright. Not your fault, you were just born that way.

Oh well, whether I’m intellectually challenged, or simply unnecessarily cynical, it would appear I have company!

Supposing for a second that the l is supposed to be the stalk of the strawberry… it’s an illegible and badly designed logotype.

Or is what they’re getting at that if we’re romantic we’ll imagine that the l is there in spirit? L for love? Sounds to me like a graphic designer unable to admit to not seeing a blatant typo in a huge heading. I’ll put my hand up, we’ve all done it…

Since when was Google a high-brow art installation anyway? Creative vision… It’s a search engine ffs.

PS if Google had creative vision they would have designed a logo, rather than vomitting up clip-art design clichés! Extraneous multiple colours, bevelling, dropshadows AND bad kerning. ARGH!

“In 1998 Sergey Brin created a computerized version of the Google letters using the free graphics program GIMP after teaching himself how to use it. The exclamation mark was added, mimicking the Yahoo! logo.”

Created, not designed. Even Wikipedia agrees with me! I can feel a blog coming on…
